Since 2003, the 1st Ward has successfully enhanced and improved its parks and open spaces. Since taking office, Alderman Moreno has helped lead efforts, along with Park Advisory Councils and local volunteers, to significantly improve or expand Haas Park, Maplewood Park, Lucy Flowers Park, Dean Park, Commercial Park, Wicker Park, the Wabansia/Leavitt Park and the Algonquin Playlot. Our parks serve as central meeting places for all types of activities in the community as well as provide recreational activities for kids and adults alike. Programs are offered throughout the year by the Chicago Park District ranging from after-school activities to performing arts to fitness programs.
The Alderman also has been working with the Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail, a local group of bike and open space advocates, to transform a former railroad line into a bike and pedestrian trail.
The Alderman remains dedicated to preserving and expanding parks and green space throughout the 1st Ward by continuing to work with Chicago Park District Staff and local Park Advisory Councils, and park volunteers, all of whom play an integral role in maintaining and beautifying the parks in our community.
